El Hierro

Back to the page Microscopic images

The floating stone also called Restignolita, was created by an underwater volcano south of the Island El Hierro, one of the Canary Islands, between October and November 2011 but certainly before  November 26th. Sample taken and sent by Ian Carson. It is most likely from the early stage of the eruption.  Images were taken from the “white” and the “black” part of the stone.

Solid earth net published a chemical analysis on the early Restignolitas. www.solid-earth.net/3/97/2012/se-3-97-2012.pdf

And another PDF from solid Eart: The floating stones off El Hierro, Canary islands

This stone is said to be a Millosevichite.
